During my first term in office, FUSD was quickly facing an unexpected pandemic. Governing during a global crisis is nothing I ever expected to face. Despite those challenges, I'm proud of these accomplishments during my first term. As trustees act as a governing team, I want to acknowledge the work of district staff, our bargaining groups, and my fellow trustees in this work.
- Brought new leadership into the district with a new Superintendent who has improved communication with all stakeholders
- Implemented one of the most robust distance learning programs in the State during school closures which helped to mitigate learning loss
- Adopted district wide SEL curriculum with unanimous support of the board
- Increased mental health supports and services district wide
- Supported the creation and expansion of wellness centers on our secondary sites
- Diversified core and supplemental novels list to be more reflective of our community
- Passed the Roosevelt Resolution to address climate change and sustainability
- Adopted plans to bring solar power to FUSD
- Reached a three year contract with our bargaining groups even after impasse was declared
- Worked collaboratively with union leadership to reach beneficial MOUs for the 22/23 school year
- Increased the district's financial reserves
- Advocated effectively with legislators which resulted in improvements to bills impacting FUSD including reforms to ADA funding
- Attended regular meetings with ACOE and ADPHD during the pandemic to ensure FUSD stayed aligned with county guidance and provided a safe return to in-person instruction
- Passed a resolution to support Afghan refugees and worked collaboratively with the City and community partners to welcome newcomers to our community
- Adopted FAIR compliant social studies curriculum
- Adopted NGSS aligned science curriculum
- Created the Special Education District Advisory Committee
- Supported Challenge Success Surveys which will help drive strategic planning to better support our students
- Adopted a governance handbook for the board of education to improve the functioning of the board
- Spearheaded efforts to participate in Federal lobbying to support public education
- Adopted comprehensive inclusive sex education
- Held regular "trustee townhalls" to provide more engagement opportunities for parents and stakeholders
